D.J. Grothe to James Van Praagh in Huffington Post: What Are You Hiding From?

The James Randi Educational Foundation challenged celebrity medium James Van Praagh in August, after his ‘reading’ of an ABC correspondent on an episode of ABC’s Primetime Nightline featuring the JREF. The show revealed that every one of the points of Van Praagh’s reading could have been easily obtained in advance through a simple internet search.

Ever since then, we’ve put a million dollars on the line and asked Van Praagh to prove that he can do what he claims without cheating. We’ve tried to reach him by certified mail, email, and twitter. Reporters have tried to contact him. So far, he has refused to answer.

Last week, we published this open letter to Mr. Van Praagh on The Huffington Post.

On Saturday, October 22, the James Randi Educational Foundation will present a half-day workshop on ESP in Atlanta, Ga: Does extrasensory perception (ESP) exist? Participants in this workshop—presented with the help of Atlanta Skeptics—will have a chance to examine the question through an in-depth and hands-on exploration of the often mysterious and always fascinating topic of ESP and the related science.

An Interview with the JREF’s Director of Educational Programs

Debunking vs. Educating. This was the focus of a panel discussion featured at this this year’s Skeptrack at Dragon*Con. The panel, moderated by JREF President D.J. Grothe, explored the roles played by these different approaches in the classroom and the community. Does one method better serve the goals of skeptical educators and activists? How can we most effectively use both methods to increase the public’s awareness and understanding of the skeptical perspective? Sadie Crabtree sat down with the JREF’s Director of Educational Program, Michael Blanford, to get his ideas and vision for the JREF’s educational programs.
